New York March 29, 2004: One of Australia’s most successful television programs, Neighbours, is set to launch in America. DLT Entertainment Ltd, which represents the show’s international distributor Fremantle International Distribution, an arm of FremantleMedia, has sold the daily serial drama to US cable network, Oxygen. The series is already broadcast in 55 countries around the world.

Neighbours will premiere on Oxygen beginning on Monday April 19, 2004. The network will broadcast two half-hour episodes back to back from 1pm to 2pm. US audiences will pick-up the story with the arrival of the Scully family in Ramsay Street, Erinsborough - the fictional setting of the soap.

“This is part of our aggressive effort to bring British and Australian programming to US television screens,” said Don Taffner, Jr., DLT Entertainment Ltd. VP.

“We have a long history of successfully importing Australian programming and formats.” Other Australian series DLT has imported over the years include Skippy, The Bush Kangaroo and more recently Bar Car, produced for Showtime.

Now in its 18th year of production, and having celebrated its 4,000 episode last year, Neighbours is produced by FremantleMedia’s Australian production company, Grundy Television. The daily serial drama, which airs on Network 10 in Australia, and is also a firm favorite on BBC1 in the UK, averages around 120 million daily worldwide viewers.

Neighbours has launched the careers of many who have gone on to internationally successful music and acting careers including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Natalie Imbruglia, and Guy Pearce. Even Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe made an appearance in the soap!

Lisa Honig, VP Sales, US and Canada for Fremantle International Distribution comments: “We are thrilled to have secured this deal with Oxygen which marks another exciting chapter in Neighbours’ phenomenal international success story. Oxygen has scheduled Neighbours in an excellent slot, following-on from lead-in show Roseanne, one of the networks’ top rated programs.”
