BBC AMERICA BRINGS MY FAMILY TOGETHER, ACQUIRING SERIES 5 FROM DLT ENTERTAINMENT

Yet-to-broadcast Christmas special completes the set

London 12 August 2004. Following the acquisition of the first four series of hit sitcom My Family, BBC America has now picked up the latest series from leading independent production and distribution company DLT Entertainment. The deal includes thirteen episodes of series 5, a one-off flash-back episode and a Christmas special which will broadcast as 2 x ½ hour episodes. The series screened earlier this year on BBC1 in the UK reaching an audience of just under ten million with a 38.5% share and the one-hour Christmas special is set to broadcast in the UK in December 2004.

The award-winning My Family began screening in the US this spring, and is currently mid-way through series 2.

This latest deal again sees BBC America hold exclusive cable/satellite rights to My Family for the first year. From spring 2005, DLT Entertainment will simultaneously license My Family in the US through non-commercial syndication beginning with series 1.

Produced by DLT Entertainment UK in association with Rude Boy Productions for BBC One, My Family is created by Fred Barron, and stars highly acclaimed actors Robert Lindsay and Zoë Wanamaker. The new series is written by an experienced team of writers, headed by James Hendrie and Ian Brown.

My Family has developed a dedicated viewership both in the UK and internationally. DLT Entertainment has the worldwide format rights to the series and BBC Worldwide and DLT jointly handle finished programme sales.

My Family focuses on the life of Ben Harper, a moderately successful family man and dentist. He is also undergoing a mid-life crisis and trying to cope with the bizarre reality of raising his three, very different, teenage children.

Donald Taffner Jr, Vice President DLT Entertainment says: “BBC America has proved a fine home for My Family, and it’s terrific that they have taken this step to secure all of the current episodes. It’s proved very popular with their viewers, and we’re pleased that fans of British TV in the United States will be seeing all five series on its original home.”
