A Journey of Discovery Along the Waterways of France

Cannes, MIPCOM 2004: Leading independent production and distribution company DLT Entertainment is introducing the charming travelogue Barging Through France to international buyers at this year’s MIPCOM.

The 27 x 30’ episodes follow film industry veteran Richard Goodwin (Seven Years in Tibet, A Passage to India, Death on the Nile) as he takes his old tug Regina along some of the 6,500 kilometers of navigable rivers and waterways of France. The extraordinary voyage of discovery begins in Paris, continues through Burgundy and along the Loire, before finally ending up in Bordeaux.

Richard Goodwin, who also wrote, produced and directed the series, discovers the many delights that France has to offer once you get off the beaten track. He savours the gastronomic delicacies of celebrated chef Paul Bocuse, tastes some of the country’s best wines and meets a wide array of people with interesting and often unusual enthusiasms, including a mushroom expert, a snail farmer, a monk who produces a world-famous cheese, and a fourth generation bird whistle maker.

Along the way, he takes part in a 24-hour petanque competition, searches for truffles, tries his hand at pottery, painting and baking, and visits many different markets including Europe’s premier antiques market in Isle sur Sorge.

Don Taffner Jr, Vice President of DLT Entertainment, said: “When Richard showed us Barging Through France, we immediately knew it was offering something different, that would have a wide appeal to international broadcasters. An unknown side of France is revealed, full of wonderful countryside, architecture and above all people. We are confident that it will sell well and look forward to introducing it at the market.” DLT Entertainment holds full international rights to the series.
