London 9 May 2005 Zoë Wanamaker picked up the Best Sitcom Actress award at the Rose d’Or festival for her portrayal of Susan Harper in BBC ONE’s most successful sitcom My Family on Saturday night (7 May), when she beat off stiff competition from fellow Brit Julia Davis (Nighty Nighty, BBC THREE).

Her award joins many others that have been won by the successful sitcom over the past five years including a National TV Award (Most Popular Comedy Programme, 2003) and a British Comedy Award (Best Comedy Newcomer for Kris Marshall, 2002).

My Family is also nominated for a Rose d’Or in the Sitcom category and will be looking to beat eight other shows, including Nighty Night, The Worst Week of My Life, Shane, Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere and Still Game from the UK plus two German offerings and one from Denmark.

My Family, produced by UK indie DLT Entertainment in association with Rude Boy Productions, is a traditional sitcom format that focuses on the lives of the Harper family. A feel-good show, which is upbeat, highly entertaining and is loved by audiences both in the UK and abroad. When the fifth series of the show was broadcast on BBC ONE last year, it received viewing figures topping 11 million.

The success of My Family is even more striking given the difficulty other pre-watershed homegrown comedies have encountered trying to win over viewers in recent years. My Family has breathed new life into this important strand for BBC ONE and during its first five series it continually won its Friday night primetime slot with a 35% audience share.

It is not only UK audiences who have delighted in the antics of the Harper family over the years, as the show has also been sold to Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Dubai, Eire, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Kenya, Kuwait, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and the US.
