DLT delivers drama and laughs galore with appointment of new Drama and Comedy Consultant

London, UK, 5 December 2006: Award-winning production and distribution company DLT Entertainment has appointed TV heavyweight, Jonathan Powell, to the newly created role of Drama and Comedy Consultant announced DLT’s President, Don Taffner Jr today.

Powell, who started work at DLT’s London office this week, will be tasked with increasing the development and production of DLT’s comedy and drama output along side John Bartlett, DLT’s Director of Comedy & Drama.

Powell’s long-standing and successful career includes six years as the BBC’s Head of Drama, a further six years as Controller for BBC ONE and almost a decade as Controller of Drama at Carlton TV. Powell is currently a Professor of Media Arts at Royal Holloway College, University of London and will continue in that post while at DLT.

Commenting on the appointment, Don Taffner Jr said, “Jonathan’s wealth of experience and contacts across the broadcasting industry will be a fantastic asset to the DLT team. We already have an incredibly successful track record in UK comedy to build on, with My Family and As Time Goes By standing out as two of the UK’s favourite sitcoms. With Jonathan’s innate understanding of what TV audiences want and how the industry operates, especially in drama, we are looking forward to embarking on this expansion of development and working together on many interesting and innovative projects.”

CMy Family is produced by DLT Entertainment in association with Rude Boy Productions for BBC ONE, and stars Robert Lindsay and Zoë Wanamaker. A seventh series of the show is currently in production at Pinewood Studios and is scheduled to air in spring 2007.

Powell added, “I am looking forward to working with DLT to strengthen their already outstanding reputation in comedy and drama further. The idea of developing and producing projects for them is an exciting challenge “.
