DLT ENTERTAINMENT TAKES MY FAMILY TO GERMANY

Concludes major format deal with RTL

(London October 3, 2003) Following hot on the heels of its sale to Poland, leading independent production and distribution company DLT Entertainment has concluded a format deal for My Family in the competitive German market.

The award-winning sitcom has been picked up by commercial broadcaster RTL, which is reformatting for the local market. The broadcaster is planning to produce an initial pilot of the show, with a view to producing a first series of eight episodes for transmission next year. Independent production company Filmpool has been signed up by RTL to produce the local version.

DLT Entertainment recently launched brand new episodes of the long-running series at MIPCOM 2003, and in the UK, the BBC has requested series 5 and 6 (a further 28 episodes) of My Family.

Produced by DLT Entertainment UK in association with Rude Boy Productions for BBC ONE, My Family is created by Fred Barron, written by a team of writers and stars highly acclaimed actors Robert Lindsay and Zöe Wanamaker. The new episodes will be written by an experienced team of writers, headed by James Hendrie and Ian Brown.

BBC ONE most recently aired the fourth series of My Family, and it continued to win major audiences throughout the run, further proving to be one of the broadcaster’s most successful sitcoms over the last seven years. My Family continually won its Friday night primetime slot with a 35% audience share.

The series has developed a dedicated viewership both in the UK and internationally, with sales concluded in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Dubai, Eire, Estonia, Finland, France, Holland, Iceland, Israel, Kenya, Kuwait, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa and Sweden. DLT Entertainment has the worldwide format rights to the series and BBC Worldwide and DLT jointly handle finished programme sales.

The series focuses on the life of Ben Harper, a moderately successful family man and dentist. He is also undergoing a mid-life crisis and trying to cope with the bizarre reality of raising his three, very different, teenage children.

Donald Taffner Jr, Vice President DLT Entertainment says: “Following our recent deal in Poland and award win for My Family in the UK, we are delighted to have cracked the notoriously difficult German market and have every confidence that the local version will develop a loyal audience as it has in other territories. We are looking forward to continued high ratings in the UK for the new series and are confident of further finished programme and format sales for the show.”
