MY FAMILY RETURNS TO THE UK

Fifth series of the popular sitcom to air on BBC ONE

London 8 March 2004: The fifth series of hit British sitcom My Family, produced by leading independent producer DLT Entertainment in association with Rude Boy Productions, is airing in the UK from 19 March 2004.

Consisting of 13 episodes, the fifth series will broadcast on Fridays in primetime. In addition, a specially commissioned 50th flash-back episode is airing on 12 March 2004, kicking off the new series run on BBC ONE.

Last year proved to be an exceptionally successful year for My Family with ratings figures from BARB ranking it as the top sitcom running throughout 2003. DLT Entertainment also won accolades for the popular show at the TV Quick Awards and the prestigious National Television Awards. In addition, the company cracked the competitive German market selling the format rights to My Family to RTL and also to Poland’s TVP.

Created by Fred Barron and written by a team of writers, My Family stars highly acclaimed actors Robert Lindsay and Zoë Wanamaker. The new episodes are written by an experienced team of writers, headed by James Hendrie and Ian Brown and directed by Dewi Humphreys.

My Family is the UK’s favourite sitcom, and the BBC’s most successful home-grown hit of recent years. During the broadcast of its fourth season, which ended last year, it continued to attract major audiences regularly winning its Friday night primetime slot with a 35% share.

The series has developed a dedicated viewership both in the UK and internationally, with sales concluded in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Dubai, Eire, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Israel, Kenya, Kuwait, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa and Sweden. DLT Entertainment has the worldwide format rights to the series and BBC Worldwide and DLT jointly handle finished programme sales.

My Family focuses on the life of Ben Harper, a moderately successful family man and dentist. He is also undergoing a mid-life crisis and trying to cope with the bizarre reality of raising his three, very different, teenage children.

Donald Taffner Jr, Vice President DLT Entertainment says: “The fifth series of My Family will offer viewers hours of laughter and we are confident it will continue to be ranked as the most-popular sitcom in the UK.”
