DLT Entertainment Develops New Drama For UK Broadcasters

LONDON 7 April 2015: DLT Entertainment is developing a UK version of smash hit Scandinavian drama Nurses following a deal with Swedish distributor Eccho Rights.

This is DLT's first drama development since Margaret Enefer was brought on board to grow and diversify the independent producer’s slate of drama content with a focus on original development, adaptations and long-running returning series for UK and international broadcasters.

The hit series explores the professional and personal lives of four female colleagues who cope in different ways with the challenges of working on a trauma ward. Dealing with life and death situations on a daily basis, they save lives with determination, strength and a black sense of humour in a system that sometimes seems designed to do the opposite; while struggling to keep their own personal relationships on track.

Originally produced by Finnish production company, Yellow Film for YLE2, the series has been massively successful in its native country with a six-fold increase on viewing figures for the slot and becoming the most watched series ever on the broadcaster’s catch-up platform. YLE2 have already ordered a second, third and fourth series on the basis of the opening episodes.

Announcing the deal, DLT’s President Don Taffner Jr. said: “NURSES is the first announced project of a number of projects we are developing for the British market and is at the forefront of our strategy for drama production. We want to bring fresh new formats to the UK and focus on quality programmes as we continue to invest in and expand our slate of programming. Developing NURSES illustrates our commitment to producing excellent original drama content in the UK.”

Head of Drama, Margaret Enefer said: “NURSES is a fantastic scripted format and we’re very excited to be developing this amazing project here. The NHS is such an important part of British life we believe this series will really connect with the audience, particularly through the strengths of the four female characters at the centre of the drama. Their personal stories and the impact that has on their professional lives is what drew us to the material so strongly.”

Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, says, “NURSES was a hit in Finland before the show even aired, with commissioners ordering new episodes based on the scripts. Their confidence in the show was confirmed with amazing viewing figures and great audience feedback when the show came to screens last fall.

“Broadcasters are always on the lookout for a show that really engages viewers both on screen and beyond. NURSES is a perfect example of this. It’ll be interesting to see how the audience takes to it in the UK and how the storyline is adapted for its local audiences.”
