The Diets that Time Forgot

Could the diets of the past help the health-conscious of today?

This series sees 21st-century dieters spending 24 days on weight loss and fitness regimes that were popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and the 'roaring' Twenties.

We look at the influences that have shaped us since we first became “self-consciously fat”, and pick up practical advice from our ancestors' demonstrably more successful efforts to stay trim. And we'll be finding out which plan works best, be it the Banting diet - first published in 1863, the 'chew chew' diet of the early 1900's or the first calorie counting Lulu diet - the best- selling non-fiction publication of 1922!
