Fresh Fields
French Fields
Hester (Julia McKenzie) and William Fields (Anton Rogers) are a middle-aged couple who always bring their own infectious, happy-go-lucky sense of fun into everyday situations.
The couple’s children have grown up and left home. With her husband busy at work and finding time on her hands, Hester resorts to studying various subjects at evening class -- with often disastrous results. While she struggles on with a life of learning -- drawing, cooking, pottery -- William looks on in amazement, wondering why on earth anyone would want to put themselves through this extraordinary schedule of rigorous self-improvement.
In FRENCH FIELDS, William and Hester follow their children’s adventurous example and emigrate to France. They soon discover that there’s more than the Channel separating the English from the French. Hester bravely tries to cross the language barrier using a mixture of Franglais and mime to rival Marcel Marceau -- leaving the French bewildered. French customs and culture are no less difficult. Although their new life poses many awkward problems, the Fields persevere in their inimitable style.
