Shaftesbury Theatre Flytower Wins Camden Design Award 2017
LONDON 1st December 2017: We are pleased to announce that the Grade II listed Shaftesbury Theatre was one of seven winners of the prestigious Camden Design Award 2017 for its weathering steel flytower extension.
The Camden Design Awards recognise, and celebrate the exceptional quality of design delivered in the built environment across the London Borough of Camden. This year over 100 projects were submitted for consideration, with seven projects selected as winners and one project selected as the winner of the Outstanding Design Award.
In selecting the flytower as an award winner, the judge commended the way in which the scheme addressed its technical challenges while delivering a dramatic and modern extension which compliments both the existing building and its context.
James Williams, Chief Executive of the Shaftesbury Theatre said “we are thrilled that the judging panel has recognised the achievements of the Shaftesbury Theatre in creating a technical space that is fit for productions in the twenty first century. The support we have received in undertaking the development has been unparalleled, and gives us confidence in approaching our ambitious Front of House Masterplan.”

- Winner Best Cultural and Community development – New London Architecture Awards 2016;
- Winner Small Project of the Year – Building Awards 2016;
- Winner of a Civic Trust Awards 2016
- Commendation for Best Public-Use Project (Privately Funded) Blueprint Awards 2016.
